Do you realize that there is only one being that stops us from being happy, joyful and free? That being is not someone else. To find this person, take a look in the mirror. Take a moment to watch little children interact and play. They are happy, joyful and free. They are taking the moment in. If you take a three year old out for a walk and are a a few blocks from the house and ask the child, “Do you know how to get home from here?” Most likely they will respond, “no”. Then you ask, “are you worried about that?” They would most likely reply, “No, because I know you will take me there.” It is Jesus who says, “Let the children come to me, do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” (Mark 10:14-15) As we grow up something happens to us. We tend to lose the childlike faith and begin to let worry and anxiety take over. The problems of life begin to consume our waking moments and our emotions take over our ability to to direct our thoughts. Our joy can be lost and the fear, anxiety and stress of life consume us.
What are we to do? Understand the power of the mind that God gave to us. We can choose to be happy, joyful and free or we can choose to be in a prison of bondage and misery feeling that we are victims of this challenging world. God wants you to be happy, joyful and free. Why would His Word say, “Be joyful always” (I Thes. 5:16), if it was not possible. His desire is not only for us to have a great life in heaven, but to have a fantastic life even right now. His Word, His Spirit and the direction He can show us through others can help us on that path. He wants to transform your mind (Roman 12:2) and your thinking on the path to ultimate joy and fulfillment.
